Music entered his life at 13, sparked by rave CDs and MC battles at Epsom’s Traveller site, where he soaked up the sounds of raves and dreamed of commanding crowds. Nicknamed Sugar Shane by his boxing coach Johnny Edwards, he honed his craft through teenage MC battles in Staines car parks, shrugging off naysayers who mocked his rhymes. By 2014, a chance encounter with a DJ mentor introduced him to pirate radio and the garage/house scene, where he quietly built his skills while navigating the challenges of being a Gypsy in the music world. It wasn’t until 2019, inspired by a conversation with Brad from The Bald Builders in Spain, that Shanefully embraced his identity. He burst onto the scene as a proud Gypsy rapper, with a viral freestyle in 2020 racking up over 1.5 million YouTube views.
